Greetings! Happy Druid Festival of Beltane, Roman Festival of Floralia, regaled by the Puritans as a day of observing ancient fertility rights, Maypole dancing, International Workers Day and yes, the National Day of Prayer.
The National Day of Prayer is a day designated by the United States Congress as a day when all Americans regardless of faith are asked to come together and pray in their own way.
After spending time briefly this morning with my own family in prayer, I dropped off my sons at school and arrived at work to discover the following message e-mailed company wide:
Please join us in Charlenes office at 12:45 today where we will ask Mr. Thompson to pray us up for the coming year. All are welcome!
I must admit that I was, at first, alarmed that I had been volunteered in such a manner. My shock resolved to honor however, when I quickly realized that I am having some impact in my workplace to be trusted by my fellow workers to lead them in this way. Our weekly Bible studies, which I facilitate, have enjoyed sporadic attendance at best, but continue to meet, when work allows.
I have found that it is part of my own nature to evaluate our Bible Studies “success” in human terms alone. This morning’s e-mail was a reminder to me that God sees things differently and is always at work, mostly behind the scenes.
The National Day of Prayer is a great day to be reminded of that Truth!
